When setting up your configuration, there are several settings available that influence when and how often the the privacy banner is shown to your end users.
Resurface setting specific to the GDPR framework
- "Reshow GDPR CMP setting controls automatic resurface of the banner X months after the last banner interaction.
Resurface settings specific to the TCF framework
-
Resurface UI, if a new vendor was added from the GVL -> with this setting enabled, adding another vendor through the GVL will make the privacy banner to resurface automatically, once the settings have been published.
-
Resurface UI, if a vendor claims a previously undisclosed Purpose or changes its declared Legal Basis for a previous disclosed Purpose -> enabling this setting may cause automated banner resurface if any TCF vendors enabled for the configuration have made changes to the Purposes or changed Legal Basis for Purposes they already work with.
The GVL updates that may contain these changes are one on a weekly basis, typically on Thursday afternoons or Friday mornings. -
Resurface UI, to remind users of their right to opt-out after 13 months -> when enabled, this allows the banner to automatically resurface once the last end user banner interaction was 13 months ago.
-
Resurface UI, if the ATP list is updated -> when enabled, adding or deleting Google Vendors will qualify the banner for automatic resurface.
This setting is disabled by default and is only visible if Google Vendors were enabled
Resurface settings specific to the the US frameworks
- Show CMP settings controls the initial banner display.
- Reshow CMP after X days controls the automatic resurface of the banner after X days since the last banner interaction for the end user.
Manual Resurface
In addition to all of the above, there is also an option to manually resurface the banner to all users all demand.
This can be activated via Account Interface in the Configuration → CMP Settings
This setting also displays the latest triggered resurface, see screenshot below.
Apps SDK needs to be at least on version 2.18.2 to use this feature.
Understanding common reasons for banner resurfaces:
- A spike of banner resurfaces following a Friday without any changes to the configuration -> this is typically linked to the weekly updates to the Global Vendor List.
- A spike of banner resurfaces following an automatic system update -> this is typically linked to an automated updates to the Data Processing Services when version-specific resurfaces have been enabled.
