Why should you manage your domains?
The security of your CMP is paramount. Unauthorised use of your banner by third parties can incur unnecessary costs and compromise data integrity in analytics. This feature is particularly crucial for businesses managing multiple units, ensuring that specific Settings IDs are only used by authorised business units.
What Is the domain management feature?
The domain management feature allows you to define specific domains where your CMP banner is allowed to be displayed. This prevents unauthorised domains from displaying your banner and potentially incurring costs or skewing analytics data.
How to use the domain management feature
Accessing the feature
- Log in to your Usercentrics admin interface
- Navigate to the 'Implementation' section
- Locate the 'Domain Management' feature within the Script Tag tab
Setting Up "Domain Management"
- Click on 'Show only on specific domains' to activate domain management.
- Enter the authorised domains where the CMP banner should be displayed in the 'Enter domain(s)' field.
- Click the '+' button or enter to add the domain to your list of authorised domains.
- (Optional) Activate the 'Show error CMP' toggle to display an error on unauthorised domains if they attempt to use your CMP configuration.
Input Validation for Domains
When adding domains to your allow list, use the following logic:
domain.com
: Includes only the specified domain and its subpages.*.domain.com
: Encompasses the domain, all its subdomains, and their subpages.app.domain.com
: Restricts inclusion to the specified subdomain and its subpages.domain.com/page
: Only this particular subpage on the domain is included.domain.com/page/*
: Includes the domain with the specified path and all of its subpages.
Important Notes
- If the error message is enabled, a generic error message CMP will be displayed on all websites that are not authorised.
- Double-check the domains you input to prevent unintentional restrictions.
- Domains should be entered using standard URL conventions and based on the input validation above.
