Banner display for UK / Switzerland users and users outside of EU / EEA - common issues and best practices

When working with a single GDPR configuration, please ensure you have selected the correct regional settings. The option "Display CMP only to EU and EEA users", when enabled, will exclude users that are located outside of this region, such as users from UK and Switzerland.

TCF configurations have the option "Apply GDPR only to EU and EEA users" enabled by default. When this option is enabled, users outside of EU and EEA may not see the banner due to this setting. Disabling this setting would ensure the banner is displayed to all users instead.

 

Our Geolocation Rulesets feature allows for specific CMP configurations to be displayed depending on the end user geographical location. It is important to ensure the rules you set up correctly represent the locations or regions you want to limit your configurations to.

When creating a new ruleset, you have an option to select your global (fallback) configuration that loads when no other rules apply, and select whether you want to display the privacy banner there.

When creating location-based rules (regional rules), you have the option to select the region you want to use as a base for each individual rule. It can be a country, or a collection of countries (for example European Union), or even specific parts of one country, like a province or a state (for example California, USA).

When creating a regional rule, take care to select all countries or regions you want to use for the rule you are creating. For example, quick-select European Union bundle does not include United Kingdom and Switzerland.

Additionally, when adding a configuration to a regional rule, double-check how that configuration is set up. When setting up a rule encompassing EU, UK and Switzerland, ensure you do not enable geolocation rules on configuration level. For example, a TCF setting "Apply GDPR only to EU and EEA users" should be disabled when working with Geolocation Rulesets.
