Only a Shopify Plus account allows the modification of checkout theme files which is required to have your CMP on the checkout section.

If a specific technology has been added to your CMP and a visitor has also provided consent, then that technology will be unblocked by Usercentrics CMP and executed.
However, you may see that some technologies, services and content might remain blocked due to Usercentrics' Smart Data Protector.
This can be because these have not been added to your CMP, or because end users have not given consent for their use. Note that all technologies must be added in the Technologies section so that visitors to your Shopify online store can give consent, which will unblock them. For more information on Usercentrics' Smart Data Protector, visit Usercentrics Documentation.
The message “This content is not permitted to load due to trackers that are not disclosed to visitors” means you did not add this technology to your CMP. In this specific example, you need to add YouTube Video to the CMP.
If the technology was correctly added but no consent has been given yet, your visitors will see the message shown above (“…Please review the details and accept the service to watch this video”) and have the option to contextually accept and provide consent. Once they accept the service, the video will be shown.
Once your cookie banner is live on your Shopify online store, subsequent changes made in the Usercentrics Cookie Manager app may not be immediately visible in your storefront due to performance and caching mechanisms. These changes, however, should be reflected within five minutes after your most recent update.
You can clear your cache or visit your online store in a new Incognito browser tab to see that the most recent changes are already live. If they are still not visible, ensure that you clicked Save after making any change in the Usercentrics Cookie Manager app.
Usercentrics’ understanding is that Shopify came up with Customer Privacy API as a response to the GDPR, to support non-granular consent collection. For more information on Customer Privacy API, visit: https://shopify.dev/docs/themes/consent-tracking-api.
Despite this API being a step in the right direction, Shopify merchants’ website visitors currently cannot opt in to or opt out from individual technologies. If consent is given, then Shopify executes tracking scripts for Google Analytics, Facebook, and potentially more technologies.
To enable compliant consent collection for all Shopify merchants, Usercentrics has decided against the use of the API for its Cookie Manager app for Shopify. For now, Usercentrics explicitly encourages Shopify merchants to deactivate the Only EU option in Shopify and to uncheck the option to Limit tracking for customers in Europe (Online Stores → Preferences → Customer privacy). This ensures that Shopify merchants’ third-party technologies can be individually blocked and unblocked by Usercentrics' Smart Data Protector, per GDPR requirements.
You may choose the Privacy Link option instead of Privacy Button. The Privacy Button is a floating icon on your Shopify online store. The Privacy Link, on the other hand, is a static link. Both enable your customers to customize their privacy settings.
For the Privacy Link, add the link shown in the Usercentrics' Cookie Manager app to your Shopify online store to enable your users to change their privacy settings.
Important
It is important to configure all technologies that you use on your Shopify online store that transfer data to any third-party processor. This may include visible services on the website (such as Youtube Video, reCaptcha Codes, etc.) and also non-visual services (such as Google Analytics, Matomo Tracking, etc.).
Please note
If a technology was added to your CMP and your visitor also provided consent, then that technology will be unblocked by Usercentrics CMP and executed.
Here is a step-by-step guide to configure the Technologies section of the Usercentrics' Cookie Manager app for Shopify.
- When you visit Usercentrics Cookie Manager app for the first time, you will see a number of technologies used on your shop, which have already detected by Usercentrics.
- To see which technologies have been detected, simply navigate to the Third-Party Technologies section.
- To manually add additional technologies to a category, select the desired category first (e.g. Functional), navigate below to the Third-Party Technologies section, and type in the name of the technology that you would like to add in the search field. Then select the service from the resulting list.

This includes visible services on the website (such as Youtube Video, reCaptcha Codes, etc.) and also non-visual services (such as Google Analytics, Matomo Tracking, etc.).
Usercentrics maintains a database of over 2000 third-party technologies that you can choose from for configuring your CMP.
You can ensure everything is configured correctly by reviewing the Technologies section of your Usercentrics' Cookie Manager app and verify all your technologies have been added there.
When you first visit the Usercentrics Cookie Manager app, the software performs an initial website scan based on your Shopify sitemap URL. You are then presented with an overview of all the technologies implemented on your Shopify online store in the Technologies section of the Usercentrics Cookie Manager app.
Business plan customers can employ a repeated scan to keep the Technologies section up to date. Standard customers cannot re-scan and must manually configure any additional new technologies added from within the Technologies section to keep the CMP up to date.
Seeing the button overlap will only happen for the developer store (preview) and while you as a store owner are logged in.
For visitors to your online store, only the Privacy Button from Usercentrics is visible based on your Privacy Trigger configuration under the Branding section of the Cookie Manager app.
